Asics DS Light 5 Review

The Asics DS Light is a very unique boot, combining lightweight materials with a premium Kangaroo leather upper. After testing the boot at a team camp and multiple games, here is my full review on the boot.
(Sorry for no "First Thoughts" article)

Comfort:
Before I had even worn the boot, I had heard quite a few negative things about Asics and their comfort. Many people claimed that the comfort for their soccer boots wasn't the greatest. I completely disagree with these statements, and I believe the DS Light is one of the comfiest boots I've worn. The break-in for this boot was comfortable and easy, especially with the supple Kangaroo leather upper. The leather easily conforms to the shape of your foot after break in, which drastically improved my touch. The Kangaroo leather helps cushion the ball down, but also helps deliver a cracking strike. The only thing that bothered me was the fit of the boot; the boot is very narrow. I shortly developed a blister on my outside toe after it rubbed continuosly against the boot. However, Asics does off the DS Light in a "Wide-Fit" version, ideal for the players with wider feet like myself.

Durability
The Asics DS Light is a boot made from premium materials, so I was expecting a lot from the boot durability wise. For the most part, the boot sufficed. The boot has held itself together, and nothing major has occurred. (Rips, tears, etc.) The only thing that is making me question the boot is the very minor separation that seems to be developing between the upper and sole. This reminds me of the Trinity 3E, but hopefully the boot won't continue to separate as severely as the Trinity. I'm not to sure if this is nothing, or if it is in fact beginning to separate. (I will update this review if needed) The only other thing that the DS Light falls short on is scuffing. The upper has obtained quite a few scuffs, some that are in-removable. This is bound to happen with any white colored boot however. Overall, I was pleased with the durability.

Performance
I was very excited to test a boot that was so light with a Kangaroo leather upper, and the DS Light didn't disappoint. The lightweight of the boot (7.8oz) makes it feel that you barely have any boot on. Over an entire game, this reduced weight can improve your endurance and overall performance. The supple Kangaroo leather certainly improves touch and comfort of the boot. I enjoyed how the Kangaroo leather was just in the "first touch" area. I felt that its lack of presence elsewhere wasn't a big deal. I felt comfortable shooting in these boots, and would definitely recommend them to any striker. I enjoyed the stud configuration as well. I felt I was able to grip and roll the ball well with the 12 studs. Overall, I felt that the DS Light improved my game performance, and would be a definite choice for any player.

Recap
The Asics DS Light 5 may not be the most popular boot, but it still performs as great as bigger brand boots (Nike, Adidas). Also, the boot comes in at a fair retail of $135, which bests a lot of other companies standard $200 price tag. Overall, this boot is a great option for players who are looking to avoid a hefty price tag, and is great for any position.
