Robin Van Persie
To start this one off, I'm going to have to focus on my personal favorite signing of the summer: Robin Van Persie. If you couldn't tell already by my multiple Facebook posts, I was very excited to hear that Robin Van Persie would be joining my club, Manchester United. The Dutch striker was molded in his prior club, Arsenal, but decided to not fulfill his contract due to a shortage in trophies. RVP decided on United after a few rumors stating he would either head to City, Juventus, or Inter. This was a critical grab by Sir Alex Ferguson, who already signed Nick Powell and Shinghi Kagawa over the summer. With 4 goals in 3 games, it turns out that Robin Van Persie may be the perfect fit for Manchester United.
Clint Dempsey
I think I can safely say that this transfer took everyone by surprise. Clint Dempsey, the Texas raised striker, made a surprising move from Fulham to Tottenham on the last day in the transfer window. Hoisting a transfer fee of $9.6 million, the striker announced he would be joining Tottenham, not the rumored club Liverpool. Dempsey was very excited about the move, coining it "a dream come true". Having scored 17 goals last season, Tottenham hopes Clint will continue to find the back of the net.
PSG
PSG certaintly made their mark this year, signing a multitude of stars. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva were the main stars, with Zlatan's transfer fee coming in at 23 million. PSG went on a shopping spree, spending over 200 million on new signings. Paris Saint German is definitley trying to solidify their place in the French League and beyond, and hopefully these big signings will help them on their way.
Alex Song
It's been a rough summer for Arsenal, and the departure of Alex Song only made it worst. Arsenal's star midfielder moved to Spain to join Barcelona, one of the most famed clubs in the world. Song was reportedly sold due to lack of commitment towards Arsenal, and was becoming a crutch for Arsene Wenger. Song stated he was thrilled to join Barcelona.
"I'm very happy to be here, this is the best team in the world. Playing at a club like Barca is something I wanted when I was young."
Song will have plenty of competition for playing time, with the likes of Andres Iniesta and Xavi running the midfield of Barcelona currently.
Other major signings included:
Lukas Podolski from Koln to Arsenal
Santi Cazorla from Malaga to Arsenal
Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United to Fulham
Luka Modric from Tottenham to Real Madrid
And many more!
