Wow, it's been a while. School has kept me busy, and I've had no time to keep up. I hope to get back into the groove of things, and the Champions League is in full swing! Here's a look at how the first few matches of the round of 16 went.
This was definitely the most anticipated match of the round of 16, and the first leg didn't disappoint! The scoring almost broke early, with Real Madrid's Coentrao striking the post with a deft touch from De Gea.
It was about 15 minutes later that United's Danny Welbeck opened up the scoring with a tremendous glancing header. Real Madrid did have a fullback covering that post, but he moved from his position once the kick was taken, and Welbeck took advantage of that mistake.
The games final goal was scored in the 29th minute by none other than Ronaldo, who, like he promised, refused to celebrate. Ronaldo showcased mass amounts of class and respect to his former club that developed him into the player he is today.
Anyone else see a similarity? Ronaldo's goal vs United is similar to the one he scored for United back in the 08 Champions League Final.
PSG vs Valencia: 2-1
This game is sure to bring up many talking points, those that will mainly surround Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
That came later on however, and the scoring began with a stunning individual player from PSG's Lavezzi, who rocketed his strike into the upper 90.
PSG would add a second goal when Pastore slotted his strike into the back of the net. It was a simple finish, for he had been teed up, and was left only with the task of guiding the ball in.
PSG would concede one goal this game, with Valencia's Rami striking one in for the home crowd. This wouldn't be enough to win however.

The main talking point arises from the red card that was shown to Zlatan Ibrahimovic late on in the game. UEFA is considering a long term ban for Zlatan, while some feel his foul wasn't worthy of a red card.
These were the two main games, but here were the results for the two other matches.
Shakhtar vs Dortmund: 2-2
Celtic vs. Juventus: 0-3

Lavezzi's shot was right down the middle and flew through the keeper's hands. The commentators spent almost five minutes talking about how poorly the keeper had performed on the shot.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the keeper could have done better. I think it was the surprise factor that he chose to power it right at him, rather than slot it like most strikers would've done. It was quite a powerful shot as well.
