The Nike Green Speed is the latest innovation from Nike. Designer were told to create a boot with only the essential elements for speed. Due to be worn this summer, we've already seen some professionals (Neymar) wearing these blacked out boots in training. This new boot is crafted of recycled and re-used materials, making it the most earth-friendly soccer boot to date.
“The Nike GS is the lightest and fastest football boot we’ve ever made and really defines a new era in how we create, design and produce elite football boots,” said Andy Caine, global design director for Nike Football. “When you can deliver a boot that combines high end performance and a low environmental footprint that’s a winning proposition for players and planet.”
This boot was aimed towards pure speed, weighing in at a supurb 5.6 oz (160 grams).
The bio-based traction plate is made up of castor beans. This ensures strength and flexibility throughout the boot. The boots laces, lining and tongue are made up of 70% recycled materials.
The boots sole plate is made up of 50% renewable Pebax® Renu (castor beans) and 50% TPU, which is derived from renewable materials. This not only makes the sole plate earth friendly, but it also makes it 15% lighter than the regular sole plate.
The sole plate includes a spine going down the middle to enhance optimal flex and agility. (Adidas Adizero?)
The upper is a kanga-lite synthetic, something that is new to a Nike speed boot. This upper provides a better touch and feel on the ball, also providing lockdown on the foot near the midfoot and arch area.
The lightweight sock liner is made of 100% castor beans, making it lightweight and comfortable.
The heel counter locks the foot into the boot for enhanced comfort and stability.
The stud formation is similar to that of the Mercurial Vapor 8, with two in the back and four in the front.
This new boot launch now explains the blacked-out boots Neymar was wearing, and all of the leaked "MV 9" pictures. These were all the Nike GS FG.
The boots are suspected to launch August 15th. With only 2012 released to the public, and retailing for about $300, will anyone be picking up a pair?
